During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, eventual gold medalist Kerri Walsh of the U.S. women’s beach volleyball team made heads turn not only for her brilliant play on the sand, but also for a blue strip on her shoulder that, from afar, looked like a most uninspired tattoo design. It turned out to be a piece of kinesiology tape whose popularity especially among athletes was about to explode. For those unfamiliar with the term, kinesiology is the science behind muscular and skeletal movements.
