In Cambodia, Soma Norodom’s name says it all. She is a member of the House of Norodom, and a direct descendant of King Norodom I, the founder and patriarch of the Cambodian royal family. But don’t call her your royal highness. As a naturalized American citizen she was raised far away from the trappings of the monarch y. In 1975, she relocated with her family to the United States to escape the political turmoil in her native country. Her father, Prince Vatvani Norodom, was a lieutenant colonel in the Khmer Air Force during the Cambodian civil war.
