Breaking the “Grass” Ceiling

The burgeoning legal marijuana business has smoked out a staggering growth rate over the past two years, with national sales in 2015 of $5.7 billion compared to $4.6 billion in 2014. But what may be a more impressive statistic is the high percentage of women who are leading the way in the business. Industry publications report that females have shattered the proverbial glass ceiling— perhaps, more appropriately the “grass” ceiling—by holding 36 percent of the executive positions in the multi-billion dollar trade. That compares to 5 percent of CEO's and 17 percent of corporate board members among Fortune 500 companies.
