Even on the flag, Guam is represented as a sling stone centered on a field of blue—the great Pacific Ocean. Indeed, fishing for any island isn’t just a pastime, it is a way of life, steeped in history and tradition. “When Washington DC wanted to charge us $38 for a saltwater license, I fought them,” says Manny Duenas, who learned to fish from his uncle more than four decades ago. “This is a 4,000-year-old tradition, not recreation.”
