In the 1985 movie Back To The Future, there is a scene set in 1955 where Dr. Emmett Brown doesn’t believe Marty McFly is from the future. So he asks him who the President of the United States was in 1985. McFly replies, “Ronald Reagan.” To which Brown responds, “Ronald Reagan, the actor?!” and then walks away laughing.
Thirty years later, a similar scene featuring Donald Trump as the Republican frontrunner in 2016 might have the same response. Trump was well known as a casino owner and for his USFL team. But President in 2016? No way! And this point is exactly why Trump is doing so well. He is unconventional, and his novel primary strategy has worked well for him. He simply does not play the politically correct sound-bite game.
